(56w) Best Practices of Dynamic Simulation for Ensuring Operator Response

Authors

Dynamic simulation allows multiple abnormal events to be represented in real time for realistic operator training. This paper presents best practices on how to use an off the shelf dynamic control simulator for cost effective operator training for transient and non-steady state conditions.

The effectiveness of a safety alarm is limited primarily by the probability that the operator follows a defined course of action in a timely manner in response to the alarm presentation. Best practices in selecting scenarios, defining needed action(s) and response time, and validating the required actions and timeliness will be discussed with examples.
