Process Intensification:   AIChE Rapid Opportunities in Energy and Chemicals

Challenges in future energy and chemicals include expanded use of natural gas as a feedstock, incorporation of solar and wind into the energy supply, and enhanced concerns over emissions and footprints including land and resource utilization. The newly created Rapid institute for process intensification (PI) will be a game changer for AIChE in enabling the multi-disciplined collaborations needed to drive sustainable new technologies to commercialization, uniting efforts and capabilities from industry, academia, and national labs. Intensified and/or coupled reactions and separations will drive new paradigms for chemical engineering design to meet cost and efficiency targets. This seminar will provide a look back at both successes and challenges in the implementation of PI to date, and current opportunities for Rapid in meeting the very significant challenges we face in providing for a sustainable future supply of energy and chemicals.
