High efficient and compact turbocompressor train for next generation charge gas in ethylene plant

In the fast-moving scenario of the global petrochemical industry all the companies are more and more looking for the highest level of technology that can guarantee lower operating costs coupled with increased reliability.

Compressor and steam turbine performances are key to reach top level production of ethylene plants through efficiency. Power density technology applied to charge gas and refrigerant trains can increase several points of efficiency while optimizing CAPEX investment thanks to compact design and weight reduction.

New stages with modern design have been developed and completed with Computational Fluid Dynamics and model test. These new high-efficiency stages can be used in different configuration to reach the compressor compactness needed to minimize CAPEX and installation costs, up to stacked configuration.

Real examples of efficiency studies will be described in detail in this paper.
