As the major storage facility, large crude storage tank plays an important role in the whole product line of oil and gas industry. Corrosion has, until recently, become the major reason of storage tank failure with the increase of crude importation in China. Sulphuric, acidic as well as salt substances in varied types of crude bring more unfavorable factors to the safety of storage tank. In this work, the results obtained from the electrochemical experiments of carbon steel in Russian crude and Daqing crude were reported respectively. The mechanism and rate of both general corrosion and localize corrosion were revealed to support the further study on risk assessment and corrosion control technology of storage tank.
