Process Safety Excellence Program at PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur - Indonesia

PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) is the biggest fertilizer and ammonia manufacturer in Southeast Asia. We have 5 plants ammonia with total production 2,7 million tons per year, 5 plants urea with total production 3,430 million tons per year and 2 plant NPK with total production 100.000 tons per year.

In the fertilizer production process, many potential hazards are contained therein, such as: explosion, leakage of chemical or gas, broken old equipment, etc.

Therefore, in controlling the potential of existing hazards, Pupuk Kaltim implement Occupational Safety and Process Safety Management.

The implementation of Occupational Safety in Pupuk Kaltim, among others: SHE training for employee and contractors, Personal Protective Equipment for employee, SHE Campaign by poster, billboards and banner, Behavior Based Safety survey etc.

Process Safety Management at Pupuk Kaltim is according to OSHA 1910 standards, such as: Process Hazard Analysis with many methods (Job Safety Analysis, HAZOPS, Check list, what if, etc), Management Of Change for modification process, Hot Work Permit, Process Safety Information, Mechanical Integrity, Pre Start up Safety Review after plant shut down or major repair, Operating Procedure, and Incident investigation.

Pupuk Kaltim have been implemented Process Safety Management since 2013. Currently, PT. Pupuk Kaltim applied Safety Management System in according to Indonesia Regulation (Government Regulation no. 50 of 2012) and has been certified from International Fertilizer Association (IFA) for IFA Protect & Sustain Program with the result is IFA Product Steward Excellence. This certificate is the first and only one obtained by fertilizer companies in Indonesia. This proves that PT Pupuk Kaltim has implemented Business Process which prioritize Safety, Environment and Security for the company's business sustainability.
