A performance indicators program provides useful information for driving improvement and when acted upon, contributes to reducing risks of major hazards by identifying the underlying causes and taking action to prevent recurrence. To address this issue, API published the second edition of API Recommended Practice (RP) 754, Process Safety Performance Indicators for the Refining and Petrochemical Industries. This Recommended Practice (RP) identifies leading and lagging process safety indicators that are useful for driving performance improvement. The current evolution of industry with the introduction of connectivity based solutions to improve the various performance aspects of the Process units has opened many opportunities in the area of process safety. There are a lot of challenges to analyze the Process safety lead and lag indicators in a connected environment platform. This paper discusses the potential for increasing the process safety performance of the Unit with the use of connected systems by recording the data, analyzing data in terms of API RP 754 and bench marking the performance. By having this data from API RP 754 and in real-time makes this a true process safety indicator leading indicators. Leveraging IIoT to drive process safety excellence. Zero is good...
