Proven since 1990, the Honeywell UOP Oleflexâ„¢ technology uses catalytic dehydrogenation to convert propane and isobutane into valuable propylene and isobutylene, respectively. Oleflexâ„¢ has demonstrated the lowest cash cost of production and the highest return on investment compared with competing technologies. It minimizes energy consumption and air/water emissions, and uses a recyclable, platinum-alumina-based catalyst to reduce its impact on the environment. The unique process design maximizes operating flexibility and on-stream reliability. This presentation will review the Oleflex process, highlight the key design benefits, and summarize the evolution of technology enhancements since the first commercial unit nearly 30 years ago.
