Many companies utilize 3rd party manufacturers, often called tollers, to allow for flexibility in production for a wide variety of products and package sizes. From a business standpoint this model is very reasonable but it can add safety and environmental challenges when the right oversight and management system is not in place. 3rd party tollers needs to be evaluated based on business and HSE risk and continually assessed to improve HSE performance as part of a commitment for a healthy and safer world along with continued strong business relationships.
Most companies utilize 3rd party raw material (chemical) suppliers for additives for chemical manufacturing processes. Raw material suppliers can present business and supply challenges. Health and Safety of chemical suppliers should be prioritized and assessed to help ensure a continued supply chain but also sustaining our commitment for a healthy and safer world.
