(55ca) "Identifying Critical Process Parameter to Ensure Asset Integrity" or "Pulse of Mechanical Integrity Management System"

Authors

The management of equipment begins with an awareness that ageing is not about how old the equipment is, but is about what is known about its condition and the factors that influence the onset, evolution and mitigation of its degradation. The presentation provides an overview of Integrity Operating Window (IOW) parameters of any process that are key to understand the asset degradation and prevent Process Safety Incidents.

IOW are the situations in the process industries where a process parameters (temp., pressure, dosing rate, conc. etc...) when gets out of operating windows could result in significant loss of primary containment leading to potential severe consequences.

Arrazi - SABIC developed an IOW system that covers IOW identification, associated risk, mitigation (interim – long term), stewardship/management of IOWs and elimination.

The presentation shall cover Insight concept of the Topic, major Process Safety accidents related to breeching IOWs, actual example, IOW Management Process, its influence on PM plans etc.

three key bullet points that we can include in the agenda:

  • Knowing operating limits with associated mechanical integrity or process safety risk to ensuring proper actions to be in operating envelope
  • Developing the engineering leadership to systematically guide the operators, superintendents and engineers to be in safe zones
  • Dynamic inspection frequency based on plant conditions and sharing some industrial major incidents for this critical item
