Mexichem is in the process of implementing world-class process safety management (PSM) and Asset Integrity Management (AIM) programs globally for their facilities. This is a major undertaking as Mexichem, to a large extent, has grown through acquisitions. Therefore, each plant has a safety culture and management system unique to that asset. As we all know, it’s difficult to drive global consistency when dealing with different types of operations in various regions throughout the world under differing regulatory regimes. This is especially difficult when there is no common understanding of process safety. One of the first steps Mexichem has taken is to develop a “fit-for-purpose” management system with an emphasis on developing a common understanding of process safety and ensuring the culture is robust enough to support the system when it is implemented.

To aid Mexichem in this overwhelming task, Risktec Solutions were engaged to develop and deliver a bespoke set of interactive training workshops on a variety of PSM / AIM topics. The first of which was related to the identification and management of safety critical equipment (SCE). This presentation will outline the plan and methodology Mexichem and Risktec have used to transfer such knowledge and discuss some of the successes and challenges along with way.
