(72a) Applying Modeling/Simulation to Deliver Insight, Understanding, and Economic Value

Business and industry are increasingly challenged to develop new and improved technologies & processes that deliver increased customer value while maintaining or improving on commercial economic targets. The process insight and understandings obtained though models are essential to informed business strategy, targeted innovation, and tactical operational decisions. Process models are critical to consistently safe and successful implementation of applied science and engineering to deliver innovative products, solutions, and value to our customers. DuPont applies a diverse suite of modeling & process simulation tools to enable informed comparisons and decisions about optimal process configuration, alternative operations, detailed equipment design, and inherently safer operating conditions.

The included case studies are from typical process analyses used by the businesses to quantify and evaluate process energy use, utility requirements, raw material consumption, and by-product generation and demonstrate the benefit to our organization and accelerate our ability to screen and prioritize technology development opportunities. This paper will illustrate DuPont use of process modeling to identify & evaluate options, optimize energy and material requirements, and justify technology implementation and/or process upgrades to deliver economically viable & sustainable technology to the marketplace.
