Volunteer Opportunities
AIChE is currently seeking faculty, graduate student, and professional volunteers to help with a few different events taking place during this year’s Annual Student Conference in San Diego, CA, October 25 – 28, 2024.
Note: AIChE is not able to provide funding, travel/hotel reimbursement, complimentary registration, etc. in exchange for participation in these volunteer activities.

Mock Interviews |
Help Annual Student Conference attendees practice their interviewing skills. Interviews are structured into 20 minute appointments, with 15 minutes for interviews and 5 minutes for interviewers to provide feedback to the student at the end of the session. |

Chem-E-Car Safety Inspection & Poster Competition |
Safety Judges will be divided into teams and will receive a Safety Review Form, which will prompt questions to ask each Chem-E-Car Team about the potential safety hazards of their design. Poster Competition Judges will receive a poster competition rubric, which will prompt questions to ask each Chem-E-Car Team about the design. |

K-12 STEM Showcase & Outreach Competition Volunteer – various opportunities |
Various K-12 Opportunities AIChE K-12 STEM Outreach Competition Judge Help to judge the finalists. 16 teams comprised of AIChE members will showcase their STEM modules/demos to an audience of 100-200 K-12 students, but before they do, official judges will score their modules on a number of criteria including feasibility (mobility, accessibility, & cost), interactivity, and safety.
K-12 STEM Showcase Lunch & Learn Volunteer During the event, K–12 students, along with their parents and educators, will receive an introduction to STEM and insight into a few different STEM career paths, interact with STEM experiments being led by teams of AIChE members, and learn more about Chemical Engineering over lunch with real life ChemEs. Help us make the Lunch & Learn happen by signing up to teach a small group of future STEM professionals about Chemical Engineering over lunch.
K-12 STEM Showcase Volunteer (Other) Additional volunteers are needed throughout the day to make the AIChE K-12 STEM Showcase a success.

Speed Mentoring Session |
The purpose of this event is to give undergraduate students insight into different career paths. We are looking for fellow volunteers to meet with groups of students, in 15 minute segments in the afternoon. Volunteers must be attending ASC in person. *At this time, we are primarily seeking volunteers in Oil/Gas and National Labs Additional career paths we are considering, at all levels of company sizes, including startups are: • Pharmaceuticals • Food • Academia • Specialty Chemicals • Commodity Chemicals • Consulting • Environmental |

ChemE Cube - Pitch Judge/Mock Investor, Safety Judges |
Judges/Mock Investors will review a 10-minute live presentation by each team with a 10-minute Q&A session. Judges will critique each team based on the questions presented in the rubric. Safety Judges will be divided into teams and will receive a Safety Review Form, which will prompt questions to ask each Chem-E-Car Team about the potential safety hazards of their design. |

ChemE Cube - Duel Judges, Poster Judges, General Volunteers |
Duel Judges will calculate the total points earned by each team in each head-to-head duel using the provided rubric. Duel Judges must work with Cube Output Analysts to process their data to accurately award points to each team. Poster Judges will review team poster presentations using the provided rubric. Student Technical Presentation Competition |
Winners of the Regional Student Paper (Presentation) Competitions from across North America and International Regions present on scientific research, engineering design, or other technical topics. Volunteers will be provided with their judging assignments upon arrival, and are expected to judge for the full session. |

Undergraduate Student Poster Competition Judge |
The Undergraduate Student Poster Competition has become a highlight of the AIChE Annual Student Conference, and with more than 400 students presenting and over 100 judges, it is the biggest forum for Chemical Engineering undergraduates to present their activity to the professional community at large.
