Effective project management is fundamental to the operational and financial success of organizations in mining sectors, such as alumina refineries. This work aims to show, through a case study, the role of risk management in project prioritization, exploring how inherent uncertainties are identified, evaluated, monitored and mitigated to optimize resource allocation and ensure the delivery of consistent results. It also shows the importance and flow of change management within the project, since having it well documented helps with traceability, decision making and ensuring compliance. Using a case study approach, we examine risk management processes and practices in the area of engineering projects. The results reveal the importance of a proactive approach to risk management, integrated into the project prioritization process, in order to guarantee operational resilience and maximize return on investment. Additionally, lessons learned and best practices identified are discussed, offering insights for professionals and researchers interested in effective project management in industrial mining environments.
