Hydrogen Regulations, Codes, and Standards Landscape

The world of codes and standards is a dynamic one with many documents undergoing consistent revision cycles. While industrial hydrogen standards have been in place for decades, in the nascent hydrogen market of fuel cells, vehicles of all kinds, refueling infrastructure, power generation, backup power, long duration energy storage, etc. there is much activity in numerous standards development organizations. There is also a buzz in the legislative and regulatory arenas around hydrogen, and one may well feed into the other.

This talk will discuss some of the recent activities in hydrogen codes and standards, including new standards under development and revisions of existing documents, reflecting a need from the industry and market. There is also much effort to reach out and educate permitting authorities about such codes and standards, and work to identify gaps in knowledge and practical application. This talk will highlight resources that are available to assist in those efforts. The hydrogen regulations, codes and standards landscape is broadening quickly to reflect the multitude of uses for hydrogen in decarbonizing our energy and transportation sectors, and this talk will highlight some of that activity.
