Digital Future of Chemical Industry- Challenges and Opportunities

Fluidisation processes in industry present significant opportunities and challenges. This type of reactor offers increased yield and the ability to produce at scale in continuous processes with longer residence times and which need increased surface area of contact between the particles and the fluidisation gas. The speaker has experience of operating large fluidisation processes and will present some of the challenges that perhaps are not obvious from a lab view of fluidisation. We will look at how modelling can help understand and improve our processes, the limitations of the current available models and some opportunities for further research. When we look at the challenges facing our world we have a responsibility if we can make a step change, how can we make processes more efficient and take less energy or energy from renewable sources. We will discuss the challenges and opportunities that fluidisation can provide and challenge researchers to look for step change improvements.
