Session Descriptions
Process Optimization
New enablers for process optimization are digitization, which results in the Digital Twin and collaborative workflows, and machine learning, which allows to build gray-box models combining rigorous thermodynamic simulation and plant data.
This session focuses on the methods and tools available for process optimization.
Process Intensification
Especially in the light of an economy that continues to struggle chemical companies are forced to come up with innovative ways to improve their processes and to reduce capital and operational cost. To achieve this process intensification aims at the reduction of number of equipment used, new energy and separation technologies and smart optimization and control schemes, just to name a few.
This session focuses on examples and applications from the area of process intensification.
Creating a Baseline for Lifelong Learning in Engineering Education
What are the most important skills engineering graduates need in their future careers? What they should learn today to be prepared for a world supported by intelligent systems that may exceed human intelligence?
Young professionals need to be prepared for a lifetime of continuous development and advancement, by not only applying the knowledge they obtained during engineering course but also by acquiring new knowledge when needed.
The session is dedicated to innovation and lifelong learning as major drivers behind an ever-changing demand for professional skills.
Modeling & Data Analytics in Process Optimization
Modelling and Digital Twins are core technologies for understanding and optimizing processes. There are three basic ways to create models: White Box, Grey Box and Black Box. The first is based on data, the second is hybrid and the third is based on explicit process knowledge. The session introduces the three ways and their advantages and disadvantages.
