Cybergenetics in the Bioreactor: Optimizing Biprocesses through Light-Based Feedback Control

Authors

Cybergenetics is an emerging field concerned with the robust closed-loop control of biological processes at the genetic level. In this talk, I will present our approach of combining synthetic biology, optogenetics, and control engineering to enable cybergnetic control of biotechnological production processes. After describing the technological setups needed for this approach, I will demonstrate the application of cybergenetics in two different applications: control of bacterial co-culture composition, and the control of the unfolded protein response in S. cerevisiae for improved protein production.
