2024 PDS PSRI Research Facilities Tour
Excited to get this year's PDS started right? Looking for something to do before the Welcome Reception kicks off on Tuesday?
This year, we are happy to announce that attendees will now have an opportunity to participate in a Tour of the Particulate Solid Research Inc. Facilities!
Particulate Solid Research Inc. (PSRI) is an international consortium of companies focused on the advancement of technology in the multiphase flows with granular and granular-fluid systems. Since 1971, PSRI has amassed a prolific amount of design data, technology, know-how, design criteria and models on all aspects of slurries, liquid injection, fluidization, entrainment, pneumatic conveying, attrition, erosion, distributor design, standpipes, solids transfer, and circulating fluidized beds. From the data produced, PSRI has developed design correlations, models, procedures, methods and techniques which are among the best and most useful in the field.
Overview
PSRI specializes in granular-fluid flows and uses large-scale, cold-flow experiments and mathematical models to study those flows as applied to industrial problems. The PSRI facility consists of 11 buildings sitting on 3.5 acres with research labs reaching 130 feet (39.6 meters) in height and 72,000 sq. ft. (6680 sq. m.) of floor space. On-site is a wide range of equipment that mirror commercial unit operations typical in fluidized catalyst cracking, gasification, pyrolysis, and polymerization. Fluidized beds range from 1-ft (0.3-M) to 5-ft (1.25-m) in diameter and circulating fluidized bed units range from 12-inches (0.3-m) to 36 inches (91 cm) in diameters with heights of up to 90 feet (39.6 meters). In addition, PSRI has a wide array of support equipment such as feeders, cyclones, conveying lines, etc. The tour of this facility will focus on demonstrations of the intricacies of the granular-fluid flows in this large-scale equipment.
