Fired heaters are the largest consumers of energy in refineries and petrochemical plants. Most heaters in the industry are not operating at their peak efficiency. There could be several reasons for their operating at lower efficiency. One of the common reasons is the fluctuation in the heater operating conditions and continuous need for optimization of the heater operating parameters. It is possible to optimize the heater operation with fluctuating loads and save energy with relatively simple steps. This will also reduce the green house gas emissions. FIS will present case studies to illustrate the steps required to achieve maximum heater efficiency. Simple control schemes and software-based solutions can be installed to help the operator optimize operation on a regular basis and derive maximum benefit.
