The challenge in the refining industry is to provide cleaner fuels with crudes that are heavier and much higher in sulfur content. Shell is reinventing the way crude separations are being done through new technology development in three different areas: physical separations, chemical treatment, and pre-treatment. Case studies will be presented and discussed on the new and better separation processes that have been developed by Shell utilizing all of its resources in science and technology.
