Once restricted to highly skilled senior staff, chemical process simulators (CHEMCAD, ProII, Unisim, AspenPlus) are now commonly utilized by Young Professionals. Younger engineers are more comfortable with the computer technology than many of their seniors. Younger engineers are often trained in the basics of process simulation in university.
There is a gap between the level of simulation taught in a senior design class, and the level of skill needed in industry. Many engineers are unaware of this gap, until they make mistakes and learn important engineering concepts and 'best practices' with a simulator.
Aimed at the young professional, this presentation will discuss some best practices when using a process simulator, discuss common mistakes with simulators, and suggest areas of focus for further learning.
