Achieving accurate flash results is a fundamental requirement of most chemical engineering analysis. However, this can be very challenging for most chemical engineers due to the large selection of property methods to choose from in process simulation software and the lack of understanding of binary interaction parameters and pure component properties. The optimal selection of property methods and binary parameters can now be achieved by any chemical engineer using the latest data and software from the American Petroleum Institute (API) and Gas Processor’s Association (GPA). And for systems that are not covered by the standard thermo packages provided by API and GPA for the oil and gas industry, regression of accurate NRTL parameters can be accomplished for most any chemical process using the world’s largest compilation of VLE data – the Dortmund Data Bank (DDB). Accurate pure component properties as provided by AIChE’s Design Institute for Physical Properties (DIPPr) is also a vital requirement to achieve accurate flash results.
