Damper operation is one of the most important control element in the fired heater operation. Current damper designs are inadequate and are not able to effectively control the draft in the heaters. In most heaters, dampers are left fully open. A new energy efficient damper design, which will save energy especially during turn down operation, will be described. Case studies demonstrating benefits of better damper design will be presented.
