Panel Discussion: Is Pilot/Demo scale validation an obsolete concept?

Building a pilot/demo plant is often expensive and time consuming.  Due to advances in computing technology there are increasingly sophisticated mathematical and process models available.  These models, once validated with lab scale data, could then be used for scale up to commercial plant.  When can we skip the pilot/demo scale and when is it absolutely required?  We encourage audience to participate and share their views and experience.
