Conduct of Operations - "Walk the Line!"

Conduct of Operations is one of the 20 Risk Based PSM elements from the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) - it is about running a â??Tight Shipâ? or â??Walk the Lineâ?. Conduct of Operations is about performing tasks according to expectations, policies and procedures and behaving in a safe and professional manner to reduce variability, reduce human error, increase safety and enhance effectiveness. Specific examples will be discussed on what to include in a Conduct of Operations management system to institutionalize the pursuit of excellence in the performance of everyday tasks and to minimize variations in performance. Examples on how to incorporate Conduct of Operations activities into your operations such as: Process Safety Officer, Operations Shift Change, Maintenance-Operations Hand-Over, Verification after Maintenance, Communications, Inhibiting Safety Systems, Labeling, Housekeeping, Lighting, Tool Management, Control of Access to Unit and Safe Minimum Staffing.
