Pollution Control and Emissions Prediction (NOx, CO, SOx) – Status Review

An overview of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) process as applied to full size industrial combustion processes will be presented to illustrate how CFD can be used for prediction of pollutants emission (NOx, SOx, CO etc.). An approach which couples CFD with chemical reactor network analysis for advanced pollutants emission prediction is highlighted. This approach saves on computational expense and can still predict NOx emissions from low and ultra-low NOx systems accurately. Commercial CFD package, ANSYS Fluent was used to perform all the simulations. An efficient way to quickly perform parametric study to test various pollutant control measures will also be shown.
