API Process Safety Site Assessment Program – Promoting a Culture of Process Safety
A collaborative industry effort managed by API, the Process Safety Site Assessment Program is focused on higher risk process safety activities in petroleum refining and petrochemical facilities. This program primarily involves the assessment of a site’s Process Safety systems by independent and credible third-party teams of industry-qualified process safety expert assessors. Through the use of industry-developed protocols that span over 1,000 questions in total, the site assessments evaluate both the quality of the written programs and the effectiveness of field implementation in eight focus areas: Leadership, Management of Change, Mechanical Integrity, Safe Work Practices, Operating Practices, Facility Siting, Process Hazards Analysis, and HF Alkylation/API RP 751.
This presentation will discuss how the program was developed, how the site assessments are conducted, some learnings and trends from the program, and how the program provides benchmarking information for process safety for sites as well as for the refining and petrochemical industry.
