

Steam system management and electricity co-generation are vital components to any large, integrated petrochemical facility and are an important utility generally associated with steam cracking operations. In this talk, C3 AI will present the results of BHC3 Process Optimization for steam system allocation and power cogeneration at a large fertilizer facility. The combination of first principles, data science, and a global optimization algorithm allowed C3 AI to fully model high pressure and medium pressure steam systems and produce continuous recommendations on setpoints for three turbogenerators. In production, this solution has been demonstrated to increase internal power generation by up to 10% and reduce Scope 2 emissions through the reduced purchases of externally generated power.
