Abstract

Conduct of Operations is about reducing human error by consistent operation and repeatability of results. Celanese favors the use of checklist and forms for various conduct of operation activities such shift instructions, shift change, operator notes, and operator evaluation. These forms are an example of good practices that can be shared across our global operation to get consistent results.

Analysis of LOPC data indicates that about 40% of causes can be attributed to failure of conduct of operation systems. That statistic, combined with data obtained from a strength, weakness, opportunity, threat (SWOT) analysis indicates that there is an opportunity for reduction in incidents by addressing the conduct of operations causes by sharing best practices through internal networks.

This paper will describe how to share conduct of operations best practices by the formation of a global best practice network. This network includes: periodic corporate conference calls, implementation of programs and milestones, a place to share information on a common intranet portal, and continued communication along all levels the organization.
