PureCycle Technologies strives to create a Pure Planet by commercializing the solvent-based polypropylene extraction technology invented by Procter & Gamble. Polypropylene (PP) is used in applications ranging from automobiles to food packaging and durable goods to textiles. Each PP application requires a unique formulation of solids, elastomers, colors, and additives to achieve the desired properties for the final product. This application diversity makes recycling polypropylene at scale elusive to traditional recycling methodologies due to the challenges of blending the different components of the recycled products. Polypropylene is the most produced polyolefin in the world at approximately 150 billion pounds per year and is growing at near double GDP rates, yet remains among the lowest recycling rates in the world at less than 1%. This presentation will frame the global plastic waste crisis, how new thinking and novel technology is required to solve this global problem, and how PCT intends to bend the status quo to change the narrative on recycling.
