The Separations Division is more than an organizationâit is a community, and the areas within this community compete with each other in a collegial manner. This fact notwithstanding all areas face the need to optimize separation efficacy and cost factorsâincluding energy, CO2 footprints and equipment. Award winners presenting in this session have contributed broadly and deeply to finding the right balance of the above factors within their subareas. Our division members are fortunate to have this crosscutting session to see how highly different areas address this issue. There is no single, unchanging answer within the whole field of separations, since society imposes an evolving set of needs on our Division. Innovation is key, and seeking ways to achieve revolutionary change by collaboration and evolutionary development is well suited to the large-scale separations field. This presentation will provide a framework with some examples to illustrate how such collaboration and revolutionary changes can be achieved using materials, devices and systemsâwith some specific examples.
