Ethylene decomposition is a rather subtle hazard that can occur when ethylene is exposed to elevated pressure and temperature. This paper will describe situations where ethylene could decompose, with reference to specific events. Suggested actions to prevent initiation of a decomposition will be presented. A web-based tutorial on ethylene decomposition is being developed and will hopefully be complete and introduced as part of the presentation.
