The operation of flares for ethylene production plants has changed dramatically in the past 15 years. Following the recognition that there were high emissions from many flares on a continuous basis, there has been multiple data collections, equipment testing, and new federal regulations.
This paper will cover the basics of flares â types / operation considerations / public perspective. In addition, there will be discussion on what technology direction companies are probably using for new installation. There will be discussion of what technology should / can be used for replacement of existing equipment. Finally, some potential pitfalls as the E-MACT is now in place.
Flare systems are now being, or should be, treated as another piece of process equipment that requires monitoring, maintenance, and proper operating discipline.
