How can we use Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology to Assist Process Safety? Opportunities and Prospects

arely any technology like AI (artificial intelligence) technology has gained such a tremendous scientific and economic interest presently. It is often stated that AI will be the trend of the future, which is supposed to influence our daily life and lead to an industrial revolution in the near future. But for its specific application in the petrochemical industry, most people have no clue. This paper introduces the essence of AI and its main mature application scenarios. The possibility and necessity of applying AI to petrochemical industry are analyzed. Several application scenarios of AI assisted process security are described in detail£¬such as intelligent production process optimization, robot inspection, intelligent pipeline monitoring and analysis and evaluation etc. Combined with the problems in process safety management, the role of artificial intelligence in process safety management is demonstrated by examples. To make further progress towards a safer industry, AI technology can strengthen information management, improve process control-ability, prepare to obtain production data, reduce manual wrong operation, and ensure the intrinsic safety of the whole production process.
