Over the past thirteen years, ALG engineers have performed over 1,000 third-party Greenhouse Gas (GHG) report audits or attestations. These GHG inventories have been prepared for a broad spectrum of manufacturing, refining, fuel and electricity retailers, and alternative fuel producers, and provide Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions consistent with corporate sustainability reporting, applicable state cap-and-trade regulations, and third party carbon trading programs. Based on this practical experience, a technical presentation and associated technical paper will provide a focused review of the how to design an accurate and defensible GHG emissions inventory for your operations. These essential design elements are important given the increased focus on GHG inventories to support corporate sustainability and financial statements, project funding requirements, and participation in monetized carbon trading schemes. Key elements of this presentation will include data collection, data adequacy, data analysis, GHG inventory methods and quality assurance reviews. The presentation will track the Scope 1/Scope 2 inventory analyses over time for specific source categories and provide practical guidance on how best management practices can be implemented to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of corporate GHG inventories. The presentation will also provide practical recommendations on how best to manage an external GHG audit.
