Until just a few years ago, the widespread view was the U.S. was a mature oil and gas province with production in general decline. However, with the application of horizontal drilling and advanced well completion techniques, there has been a transformation in the North American energy outlook. Rapidly rising U.S. production, combined with climbing Canadian Oil Sands production, may return North America to energy independence, a circumstance that has not been seen for over a half century. This presentation provides an overview of the current and forecast energy production by region, and explores the implications of the renaissance of the North American energy sector on the energy-intensive manufacturing sector and the new infrastructure requirements for pipelines, rail, and tankers.
