This presentation is to demonstrate how to simulate manure to biogas conversion in an anaerobic batch fermentation tank, using biocomponents and the built-in fermentation unit operation in Aspen Plus. The fermentation kinetics are modeled in a single reactor in order to represent wastewater treatment processes involving mixed cultures of micro-organisms. The fermentation model provides sufficient flexibility to closely describe real-world phenomena and capable of accurately predicting gas yield and production rates. It can be used to help process engineers have a deeper understanding and insight for the manure to biogas conversion process, and lead to ideas for process improvement and optimization.
