Abstract: Flow of micron-sized
particle in humid system has been receiving extensive attentions over past
decades in energy, environment, chemical and pharmaceutical processes. In this
paper, the three dimensional simulations of both deposition and aggregation of
wet fine particles over a circular cylinder are investigated by means of the adhesive
discrete element method (adhesive DEM) coupled with the MFIX code. The fluid
phase in MFIX is described as a continuum using an Eulerian reference frame,
and the particles involved in this work are taken as adhesive soft-sphere with
particle size ranging from 10 to 100 ¦Ìm. The model of liquid bridge cohesive
forces between wet particles are taken into consideration and embedded into the
elastic contact model, and the lubrication effect introduced by the interstitial
liquid is also discussed. Then, the fibrous filtration of micron-sized particles
is simulated, and the morphology and capture efficiency of wet fine particle deposition
on the fiber is further studied in comparison with that of dry fine particles,
in which the Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR) model
dominates the short range van der Waals adhesion. Moreover, the dimensionless
