Catalytic Reactor Design Usng Multiphase Cfddimitri Gidaspow the 2011 Book , âComputational Gas-Solids Flows and Reacting Systems â, Edited By S. Pannala, M. Syamlal and Tom OâBrien ,Engineering Science Reference, Shows the Progress We Have Made in Using Multiphase CFD in Modeling Fluidized Bed Chemical Reactors and Other Multiphase Systems, Such As the Pyroplastic Flow Emitted from Volcanoes. in This Presentation the Design of Two Types of Catalytic Reactors Will be Described: A Fischer_ Tropsch Slurry Bubble Column Reactora Polymerization Reactor the CFD Design of a New Slurry Bubble Column Reactor Was Already Described By Gidaspow ,Et Al in Chemical Engineering Science 134,784-799 (2015).in This Presentation the Design Will be Extended to Obtain 100, 000 Barrels of Diesel per Day, Twice That of the Largest Commercial Reactors. the Production of Synthesis Gas Using Oxygen or Carbon Dioxide in Catalytic Fluidized Beds Needed for the Fischer-Tropsch Reactor Will Also be Discussed Briefly. for the Polymerization Reactor Our CFD Code Described in â Computational Techniques â By D. Gidaspow and V. Jiradilok , Nova Science, 2009 Was Modified for Polymerization Reactors. Such Reactors and Their CFD Modeling Are Described in a Chapter in Pannalaâs Et Al Book from Professor Rodney Foxâs Group. They Point out That the Fine Particle ( 80 microns ) Catalyst Radial Distribution, Is a Remaining Issue the Computations to be Presented Will Show That the Catalyst Will Have a High Concentration at the Reactor Walls for Various Operating Conditions. This Leads to a High Rate of Reaction at the Reactor Walls and May Result in Melting of the Polymers and Sheet Formation , Forcing Reactor Shut-Down. in Some of Our Simulations There Is Large Bubble and Slug Formation Similar to Those Mentioned in Foxâs Chapter.
