Sustainability as a Scientific Paradigm - An Industrial View

Sustainability plays a key role in our business processes and is important to our future success. This presentation will discuss Dow's rich history in the area, underscore the importance of vision and goals in driving results and accountability, and provide an overview of the framework Dow is using to "Set the Standard for Sustainability", one of the company's four strategic pillars. Science and technology provide a key foundation for Dow's sustainability efforts. Examples of products and processes fueled by science and technology illustrate how chemistry and engineering can foster innovation and deliver solutions to many or the world's challenges including affordable and adequate food supply, decent housing, sustainable water supplies, improved personal health and safety, as well as addressing climate change. In addition, progress on energy utilization, alternative feedstocks, and greenhouse gas emissions will be outlined. As Dow undergoes one of its most significant transformations in more than 50 years, sustainability and partnerships will play key roles.
