Many presentations, papers and books discuss the need to make the business case for excellence in Environmental, Safety & Health performance and Sustainability. Others discuss the need for “metrics” or a system of quantifiable measurement parameters to gauge ES&H/Sustainability performance, progress and improvement. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a large body of publicized information on specific workable models that have been implemented.
This presentation will discuss Flowserve’s approach to ES&H management excellence and Sustainability; presenting the actual metrics, measurement parameters, and formulas used to drive a 95+ percent reduction in accident/injury rates while reducing VOC emissions by 90%; hazardous waste generation by 70%, and solid waste disposal by 50%; receiving >700 awards for safety excellence from the National Safety Council and recognition as one of “America’s Safest Companies”. These were all accomplished while the company grew over 13-fold.
