Biobased additives for metal working or industrial oils are desirable due to their eco-friendly nature. In this work, 1 butane - thiol; 1 decane - thiol and 1 octadecane-thiol were employed to synthesize three useful hydroxyl thio-ether derivatives of Plukenetia conophora oil. The reactions were monitored and products confirmed by NMR and FTIR spectroscopies. The physico-chemical properties, polymer molecular weight and oxidative stability of the products were carried out to determine the end use properties. These products can find useful applications as agricultural based antiwear additives for lubricant applications.
