Water Reduction, Reuse and Associated Issues

A recent visit to an online Water Footprint calculators revealed that 80% of the water in our footprint results indirectly from the water used in the production and manufacturing of goods. This water is primarily used in the blending, cleaning, heating and cooling processes within the industrial sector.

Wastewater reduction techniques are a primary consideration for many owners with the goal of reducing water purchase, collection and treatment, and discharge costs. One such proven technique that will be explored involves the short-charging of water into a formulated blend, then using the balance of the water held in reserve for initial rinse and heel removal from the tank and piping. The final blend meets product specification, and the water consumption and product waste have been reduced. Associated issues to be discussed include final product quality and integration of the process control into the existing operations and facility culture.
