Advancements in Carbon dioxide capture- ionic liquids

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a technique which capture CO2 from industrial processes by different technologies. Liquids have shown huge potential to replace the conventional solvents used to capture CO2. In this work ionic liquids are compared by making use of ASPEN PLUS simulation for their CO2 capture tendencies and were further compared with a conventional solvent methyl ethanolamine MEA. Effect of operation parameters like temperature, pressure and solvents were modeled using selectivity analysis. Simulation results showed that about 95% CO2capture was obtained from the natural gas. Bmim BF4] showed brilliant CO2 capture tendency among the others. The loss of Ionic liquids was found to be negligible which suggested that the IL investment can be recovered in a very short period of time.

Keywords: CO2 capture, natural gas, ionic liquids.
