Optimising Regional Renewable Resource Utilisation

Authors

Narodoslawsky, M. - Presenter, Institute for Resource Efficient and Sustainable Systems

Land will become ever more important as the basic resource for a society that draws on renewable energy resources and pursues a low carbon economic pathway. Land is however a limited resource for which all these claims as well as the necessity to provide food for human population compete. This calls for careful and long-term planning how to put land to its most efficient use.

The contribution will present a methodological approach on developing optimal technology networks to utilise bio-resources on a regional scale and its application to two counties in North Rhine Westphalia. It will also report about lessons learned from scenarios changing the economic framework underlying the analysis, using different prices for products as well as different regimes of subsidies.
