Intelligent Plant Design Systems for Sustainable Engineering.
Sustainable engineering
is the process of redesigning or retrofitting operating systems for the optimal
use of energy and resources, which does not compromise the natural environment,
and built considering the future requirements.Sustainable engineering is the science of applying
the principles of engineering and design with green initiatives (Green engineering)
that centre's around positive social and economic development while minimizing
environmental impact. This objective is accomplished through efforts to re
visit the design and identify areas for process improvement, based on an
analysis of current operations, production quality, and the functional
deficiencies in the system. Sustainable engineering practices may be applied
to new and existing industries; in
which energy is consumed or resources are consumed can benefit from sustainable development.
A new
approach was needed that addresses plant engineering and operations in light of
new productivity-enhancing technologies that go beyond today's plant design
solutions. The typical problems with the engineering (3D DATA Management
Integrated system) implementation were caused by having isolated process within
the EPCM businesses. A process-based solution to the implementation was tried
out on the recent projects for the successful delivery. This solution included
integration with the licensor data (Smart plant P&ID) process, proper
hardware /software infrastructure, and data management tools (Oracle/ fox pro/
Access/ visual basic) and SAP procedures. This solution reduced
database-related problems and led to a more effective design process. This approach also extends beyond
current plant design stage to plant life cycle for maintenance and operations.
An
integrated system developed and customized to clients requirements, allows data
integration between 2D (P&ID's)/3D-design model Information and engineering,
material management and fabrication/construction management databases
(SAP). The magnitude of information
available and correlation of that data is high, as they may be using different
3D CAD platforms viz. PDS. PDMS, SMARTPLANT, PLANT 3D, other third party
software's viz. CAESAR II, TEKLA, STAAD, BOCAD, ETAP, DCS
(CENTUM/COMOS/Honeywell), AUTOPIPE, AUTOSPOOL . Availability of a robust IT infrastructure has the added
advantage of accessing the data remotely
as well, to all the agencies involved in the EPCM process, right from the
FEED/detail engineering phase.(using cloud technology private or hybrid, to
start with the implementation) .
