Australian startup Hysata has secured $111 million to scale a new type of electrolyzer with an efficiency of 95%, which is 20% higher than the efficiency of most electrolyzers. Hysata's secret is a thin layer of sponge and metal plates that uses a water property known as capillary action to split water into hydrogen and oxygen without creating bubbles.
