
Northwestern University professors revamp synthetic biology curriculum

In a course about to begin its fifth year at Northwestern University, synthetic biology instructors teach the subject organized into five scales, from the molecular to the societal. This novel approach helps students integrate concepts from chemical engineering, computer science, genetics, biology and more. "In a very natural way, it forces people to think holistically," says course developer Julius Lucks, a chemical and biological engineering professor.
