Study finds new chemical byproduct in US drinking water

A newly discovered chemical byproduct, chloronitramide anion, has been found in drinking water in roughly a third of US homes, according to a study published in Science. The previously unidentified byproduct is created when water is treated with chloramine and has never been studied for toxicity, but researchers are concerned about potential health risks due to its similarity to other toxic substances.
