Using Streamlined LCA to Assess Packaging Requirements in Aerospace and Defense

Richard, C. - Presenter, Lockheed Martin
At Lockheed Martin, we use a variety of streamlined life cycle assessment (S-LCA) tools to provide greater insight and understanding of our environmental impacts. Our approach to S-LCA is based directly on the Dept. of Defense's Guidance on Sustainability Analysis is a streamlined method for assessing life cycle impacts (LCA) and cost (LCC). Through this streamlined approach we can quickly and efficiently conduct comparative assessments and return value to our business and supply chain partners. We have also found that such streamlined approaches to life cycle thinking complement traditional Cost/Benefit analyses, while providing a greater emphasis on the social and environment value. This presentation will provide an overview of the methods used and summarize an example of how we assessed packaging options related to an industrial scale product.
